The Single Market a must to protect our jobs

The Brexit negotiations are not going well and it is looking increasingly likely we will leave the European Union with no deal.

This is deeply worrying.

Half of Britain's trade is with Europe and the weakness of the pound compared to the euro is having a detrimental effect on businesses.

It is imperative that we stay in the "Single Market" thereby protecting trade and the millions of jobs that rely on it. Anything less and the whole country faces hard times ahead.

Lib Dems leader Vince Cable has been scathing about Theresa May and the Tories' heads-in-sand-attitude.

Ratings agency Moody's recently downgraded the UK's credit rating - making government borrowing more expensive - while America's penal tariffs on Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombadier - putting 4,000 jobs in Northern Ireland at risk - highlights the possible problems we face as we leave the influential European trading block. These are not issues about the Brexit vote, rather the government's handling of the aftermath.

Lib Dems are passionate about protecting our residents' jobs and well-being.

UK needs a proper Brexit strategy ... and fast.
