Wishing you a Merry Christmas from Southend Lib Dems

December 23, 2020 10:25 AM

Dear Neighbour,

This year has been strange and challenging as we have faced the Covid-19 coronavirus and the ever-changing restrictions. But at Christmas and the start of a New Year, we look back and will remember the hope and kindness that came out of these challenges.

On behalf of Southend Liberal Democrats, we want to say a personal thank you to everyone who has helped their neighbours and community this year. You have shown what great things are possible when we support each other. And most of all we want to say, on behalf of everyone in Southend, a huge thank you to all the NHS and key workers who have worked so hard this year and those of you who will be working through the holidays too. Your kindness for others is what Christmas is all about.

This Christmas will be very different, and many people will be unable to see their loved ones. So please, as neighbours and as a community, check in with each other, and if you or someone you know needs support please reach out to those who can help. Here are just some of the organisations and charities who are there to help:

  • Southend Council - go to https://www.southend.gov.uk/health-wellbeing/coronavirus/10 or call 01702 212497.

  • Age UK Advice Line call 0800 678 1602 (Lines are open 8am-7pm, 365 days a year).

  • NSPCC helpline 0808 800 5000 (Monday to Friday 8am - 10pm or 9am - 6pm at the weekends).

  • Samaritans 24/7 free helpline call 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org.

  • National Domestic Abuse Helpline (Refuge) 0808 2000 247 (freephone 24-hours).

And remember - for medical advice, please call 111.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 999.

As we look forward to 2021 and the hope that comes with the vaccine rollout, we wish you and your loved ones a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

With best wishes

Carole Mulroney - Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Southend-on-Sea Borough Council

Billy Boulton - Chair, Southend Liberal Democrats

PS: If you are looking for something to feel more festive, we recommend the Leigh Traditional Folk Carol Service from St Clement's Church. It's available to watch on the Leigh Folk Festival YouTube page. The music starts 5 minutes in.
