The Southend Liberal Democrat Councillor Group
Less than two years ago, the voters kicked out the controlling Southend Conservatives. Other parties and groups, including the growing Liberal Democrat Group, in Southend came together to form a listening and proactive Administration who have worked hard to put right all the mistakes, as admitted by the beaten Conservative leader in May 2019.
On February 25th the joint administration voted through the progressive Budget for this year, focussing on the issues that REALLY matter to the Town's residents;
The Southend Conservatives refused to agree to any of these proposals at the Budget meeting and are now complaining that the proposed new Council car parking charges in the Budget are too high. Well, apart from not being fully true, Council car parking charges have been simplified into Zones and with the innovative idea of the Administration for the SOUTHEND PASS, which costs £8.50 a month, a passholder will be able to park for FREE for three hours in any car park or street bay in one of the four zones per day and use any other zone car park or street bay for three hours FREE on the same day. This includes our glorious Sea Front, from Leigh to Shoebury. If you want to stay longer, you pay the cost of just adding the time in the car park or street bay on site, on your mobile phone.
There are no charges in any Council car park or street bay after 6pm. So FREE from 3pm anywhere in the Town for a PASS holder.
So, whilst the Conservatives are moaning about Car Parking, the collaborative joint administration of the progressive Groups are getting on with dealing with the key issues of the Environment, homes, jobs and roadways.
