Peter WexhamThe Governments has decreed that Southend must provide 23,500 extra homes by 2040. That sounds a long way off, but it is only 19 years.

Where are these homes going to go in a town that is nearly built up to its borders? In particular, the Tory Government says we cannot rule out the use of green belt- although we have so little of it left in Southend already.

This is the biggest challenge that the town has had to face in drawing up a Borough Local Plan for the next twenty years.
