The Local Plan 2021 an Introduction from Cllr Carole MulroneyThe Council is now consulting on the latest version of Southend's Local Plan - REFINING THE OPTIONS. Although housing is one of the most crucial elements of the Plan, it also covers the need for jobs, a healthy environment, better transport and social provision.

2021 Local Plan Housing Issues ()

The Tories in Westminster are requiring that Southend, by 2040, provides 23,640 additional homes, calculated in accordance with their standard, country-wide, methodology. This graphic from the Plan tells the story of Southend's housing challenges. The Council is required to first look at all potential options to reach this number and then provide strong evidence if it is believed that we cannot reach it. The council is of course united in doing all it can to avoid the use of our limited Green Belt land.

Carole says "Making the Local Plan work for the Borough is an exciting opportunity. So much depends upon it, from tackling the Climate Emergency to health and social inequalities, to name but a few."
