Southend city status a "fitting tribute"

October 18, 2021 6:04 PM

Reacting to the announcement that Southend will be given city status in honour of Sir David Amess MP, Cllr Carole Mulroney, Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, said:

"We're absolutely delighted, not just for Southend but for Sir David's family too. He pursued this cause with a passion and this is a fitting tribute to remember him by.

"We intend to make the most of this opportunity for Southend, as Sir David would have wished."
"We can't change what's happened but we want to move forward, together, because of it."
