Cllr Craig Cannell "Sorrow into Pride"

May be an image of one or more people, brick wall, outdoors and text that says

CRAIG Cannell 1989 - 2021.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said "It is not the length of life, but the depth."

Well Craig Cannell certainly lived his short life deeply and to the full. A keen footballer, Craig was elected Lib Dem Councillor for Rayleigh's Downhall and Rawreth Ward in 2018. He was one of the youngest members of Rochford District Council.

Craig was a keen public spirited person. He was one of the first to volunteer for the Nightingale Hospital and organised food deliveries in Rayleigh when Covid first reared its ugly head in 2020. One of Craig's greatest achievements was his pioneering work with others to create the Rochford Financial Hub, this brought banking facilities back to Rochford when all the high street banks had left town. The Hub remains a thriving service for residents and local business.

During 2021 he was a leader in the campaign to save Mill Hall and the Civic Suite in Rayleigh. He fought and won a County Council election campaign for the Lib Dems to represent Rayleigh North. He also found time to serve on Rayleigh Town Council. Craig Cannell brought intellect and energy to everything he did; passing away after a sudden illness at the tender age of just 32 he will be deeply missed.
